High school days hold precious memories for all of us in the class of AHS55. Those were the days of high hopes, untold dreams and immortal innocence. Those were the days of true friendships and bonds spanning the decades.

We remember that academics seemed secondary, yet we did learn profound and eternal lessons to last a lifetime. We remember the sights of the school: a weathered brick building, R.B. Norman’s sour countenance balanced by the wonderful bluster of Bull Lynch, wonderful art sprinkled through our building, Kid Day, and old wooden halls freshly oiled. We remember the aromas: cafeteria rolls, a sweaty gym building, a forbidden cigarette’s smoke, the day’s chemistry experiment delivered to our cafeteria.

We enjoyed sounds:  33 RPM records, band and orchestra, multiple choirs, slow dances at sock hops and cotillions. We remember the trends of our times: hot rods, duck tails, flat tops, poodle skirts and saddle oxfords. We remember what seemed important at the time: sports, welcome weekends, seeing and being seen.

We regret the passing of important places: Stanley’s, the Paramount, the Double Dip, the Hub, Colbert’s, White and Kirk and a hundred other wonderful rendezvous places which are erased everywhere but in our fond memories.  Friendships were formed and bonds tied our class together…in truth and in our memories…forever.
